Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Wellness Services

             The Cardiopulmonary Services department at Houlton Regional Hospital offers Cardiac Rehab phase II and phase III as well as Pulmonary Rehab phase I, II and III, Cardiac diagnostics which include event and holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, tilt table testing and cardiac stress testing.

 

The phase I pulmonary program is an inpatient program which prepares patients with lung disease such as COPD, and asthma for discharge home.  The program offers education about respiratory medications, home oxygen, signs and symptoms, and when to seek medical attention.

 

The phase II cardiac and pulmonary programs are monitored outpatient programs that provide individualized and personalized treatment plans, including evaluation and instruction on physical activity, nutrition, heart and lung disease, medications and stress management.  Psychological / psychosocial support is also an important component in the phase II programs.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Benefits:

 

Pulmonary Rehabilitation helps you improve your quality of life.  Although Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) can’t cure your lung disease, it can be of great benefit and you may notice improved breathing effort and less breathing problems.

  • Ability to function better in your daily life.
  • Increased ability to exercise.
  • Decreased symptoms and better management of anxiety and depression.

 

   Pulmonary Rehabilitation allows you to make the most of the limited lung function you have.

 

Phase III Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation programs are maintenance programs.  These programs provide ongoing support and exercise for participants who have completed Phase II, as well as for participants who are at risk for heart or lung disease.
