The Center for Tobacco Independence’s Breathe Easy Initiative held the annual Tobacco-Free Hospital Gold Star Standards of Excellence Awards in Augusta on September 27th.

Houlton Regional Hospital was recognized for the meeting the Gold Level in the 2017 Gold Star Standards of Excellence Program for its efforts in addressing smoking and tobacco use.

The health and safety hazards of tobacco use, both to the user and non-smoker who are exposed to second and third hand smoke are very well known.  As a community leader in wellness, Houlton Regional Hospital is committed to providing our patients, employees, and visitors with a safe and healthy environment by discouraging the use of tobacco and tobacco products.  The establishment of a tobacco-free facility and grounds is evidence of this commitment.

Houlton Regional Hospital recognizes the challenges associated with tobacco addiction and will work with our patients and staff to provide resources for smoking cessation, as requested.
