Donald Brushett MD has announced his retirement from the practice of medicine, effective January 1, 2015. He has practiced Family Medicine and Obstetrics in Houlton since 1977. He has been in partnership for those thirty-seven years with “the love of my life”, Janet Parker MD (“the first female doctor to ever practice in the Shiretown”, he adds). They came to Houlton five years after Houlton Regional Hospital was established and one year before Ricker College closed. They were in private practice at 59 Bangor St. for thirty-two years and currently work at Houlton Family Practice. They have three children – Christopher, a biomedical engineer who works in Massachusetts; David, a mechanical engineer who works in the field of energy conservation in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Katie, a physician in residency in Brisbane, Australia.
Dr Brushett comments that “I feel privileged and grateful for the opportunity to have known and worked with such a diverse, talented, and dedicated medical community. My family and my patients have been my life and I would very much like to say “thank you” to all of them. I look forward to future years in Houlton as a neighbor. Dr. Parker, who is younger than I am, will continue to practice medicine along with our fellow providers Martha Stewart DO, Nancy Putnam FNP, Linda Self FNP and Philip McFarlane MD at Houlton Family Practice. The hospital is actively recruiting a new Family Physician to join the team to continue to provide the quality care our patients are accustomed to.”
